Introducing Carter Kahle Gibson

We were expecting to be going to the hospital today for a scheduled c-section and to welcome our little man into this world. Little did we know that Carter had plans of his own and we would actually be bringing him home from the hospital today!

On Sunday, I started having contractions so we rushed to the hospital. My doctor had stated how important it was to get him out before labor progressed. We arrived at the hospital at about 2:00 pm. While in the bathroom changing into my gown, my water broke! Carter was not wasting any time! He was born at 4:06 pm, weighing in at 7lbs, 13 oz and 19 inches long. He is the most amazing and wonderful thing that Brent and I have ever seen. Words cannot even begin to describe the love we have for him!
It was so nice to be able to come home today after spending three long days in the hospital! While I was recovering from my surgery, Brent was absolutely wonderful. He was so helpful with Carter and to me as well. He is already a terrific daddy!!
Carter is doing wonderful. He is such a good baby! The only time he really gets fussy is when we change his diaper or when he's really hungry. (Let's just hope we continue to be that lucky!!) He's lost 8.5 % of his weight (10 oz) since his birthday and as of this morning weighed just barely over 7 lbs. The pediatrician is a little concerned and said if he loses 10% of his weight, we will have to supplement with formula. We're really hoping that doesn't happen! He's doing very well with breastfeeding so we're not sure why his weight is down so much. We have an appointment tomorrow morning at the First Days clinic so he can have his weight checked and they can make sure he is feeding correctly. Speaking of feeding, time to go, Carter is hungry! I'll try to write more tomorrow and of course get some more pictures up, either on Facebook or Picassa.

  2. I'm glad you are all home and settled into the baby routine. I hope you both enjoy being parents and from meema's comments, it sounds like you are taking to it quite well. Best of luck in the next few weeks and just enjoy this special time at home bonding with Carter. If you come to Lyndon, stop by the office because we'd all love to see him. Take care, Jill R.

    Congrats!
Isn't that feeling of instantly being nearly overwhelmed with love amazing? You know you love them before you see them, but it really hits when you lay eyes on them.
