Enjoy the Pics!

This picture is from when we took Carter to the Kansas City Zoo after his appointment at Children's Mercy. We thought he would really enjoy seeing animals b/c he's so interested in watching Maggie, but we were wrong! He wasn't too interested in the zoo! It's okay b/c Brent and I got to see some really cool animals. Guess we'll just have to wait until little man is a little bigger before we go next time!

Tough Decisions

I've put off writing a new blog post for quite some time now b/c of where we left off last time; on the subject of Carter's head and the whole helmet thing. It's a really hard situation to talk about and after weeks of pondering back and forth, Brent and I finally made a decision, a decision that we know we'll be ridiculed for. We've already heard input from several people, some welcome, some not so much. But in the end, we decided to do what we thought was best, and our decision was to NOT put Carter in a helmet. Our reasons why:

1. Using strategies the doctor gave us, we've been focusing on keeping him off the right side of his head, and we've already seen improvement in his head shape.

2. The doctor told us that w/o a helmet, his head would round out on it's own, it just would never be PERFECTLY round...well, how many people actually have a perfect head?

3. The flat spot just isn't that bad.

4. We couldn't stomach forcing our son to wear a helmet for 23 1/2 hrs. per day for 6-7 months.

So, now that we've got that out of the way.....on to some Carter updates!

  • Carter said his first words! Last Sunday, while we were watching the Chiefs game, he said DADA! At first we thought he was just babbling, but we kept saying "Dada" and he'd repeat it back to us! He probably doesn't realize what he's actually saying, but it's still cute, and Brent's quite proud :-)

  • He now has 2 teeth on the bottom! (And let me tell you how sharp those little things are!)Still trying to get a picture of them, eaiser said than done.

  • Bubba's quite active now with his crawling, but it's still only an army crawl. He'll get up on his knees, but only rocks back and forth and then falls to his stomach. He's been close to pulling himself up to stand several times, but hasn't quite managed.

  • We discovered our little boy loves egg yolk and pancakes! Last Saturday we went out to eat with Brent's parents at IHOP. Carter was reaching for Grandpa's plate and poked his egg and broke the yolk, so we gave him a bite and he LOVED it! Then we let him try a tiny piece of pankcake and he thought that was pretty yummy too!

  • I finished shopping for all the items to complete Carter's Halloween costume yesterday. What he is going to be you ask?? It's a surprise! Stay tuned for pics!

Lots of New Things at 7 months!

Hello Friends! Seems like it's been forever since our last post! August found us to be very busy, can't believe we're already into September!

Bubba is doing awesome and making leaps & bounds by the day. In fact, Carter turned 7 months old yesterday and tonight, he crawled for the first time!! It's more of an Army crawl than anything, but hey, it's still a crawl. The video below doesn't capture the best part of it, of course I didn't have the camera handy when he was really going! But I'm sure it won't be long and we'll have some real good video of him movin all over the house! Oh, and please ignore my annoying voice on the video!

Bubba also got his first tooth today! It's his bottom left one and it hasn't completely popped through yet, but we have a little white nubby sticking up! Hopefully it will be completely through by tomorrow.

As far as eating goes, Carter's up to eating 2 bowls of cereal, one in the morning and one at night, and 1 tub each of fruit & veggies per day, plus formula. We're on 2nd foods now, so there's much more variety to choose from! Bubba's even started on the Gerber Puffs! It took him a couple times before he realized he needs to actually chew them, but he's doing great now. The only bad thing is that they stick to his hands really bad, so he thinks he's got in his mouth and once he realizes it's not, he gets really mad! He also gets mad when the puffs are all gone, so he starts grunting for more!

On Saturday, my mom and I went to Babies R Us and finally bought Carter a crib mattress so he can move to his crib! Time to retire the Pack N Play in Mommy & Daddy's room. However, we have yet to put him in his crib all night. I know it's horrible, but we're so used to him sleeping in our room that we're having a hard time moving him! But he has been taking naps in his crib and seems to be getting used to it alright.

Carter's still doing great at daycare. He never cries when I leave him in the morning and he's always in such a good mood when I pick him up....maybe it's b/c he's so happy to see Mommy! He's finally getting to the stage where he puts his arms out to familiar folks to pick him up, it's so sweet! Amy has a jump-a-roo at her house and Carter LOVES it! Apparently he goes nuts in it! You can tell that he loves jumping all day b/c he comes home and he tries to jump up and down in his exersaucer...check out video below (yes, that's Beverly Hills 90201 on the TV in the background-don't judge me!)

This Friday is our trip to Children's Mercy to see the craniofacial doctor. I personally think that his head is looking better since we've been making him sleep on this left side, but I guess we'll see what the doctor thinks. I'm really hoping for good news!
